My Little Mocha - A journey of motherhood with our first baby girl!

When your little one is born life becomes brand new because you feel as though you have never lived before; at least not like this. It is truly the most satisfying, amazing journey that just can't be topped. Every day I am with her is the best day of my life. I am so proud to be my babies momma. There is nothing like the smile from a baby when they first wake up in the morning or the joy you feel when they laugh.

Mommy or Daddy?

So I always wonder what people think...does she look like me or like daddy? The majority of the time everyone says she looks just like her daddy but there are a few times that I get some credit. What do you guys think? Leave a comment & let me know what your thoughts are.

Kira's Daddy

This is Kira's Daddy. We have been together for five and a half years. Although I don't know all my family history I am told that I am part German and part Native American. Paul was born in India and moved here when he was 8 months old. This is where the name "My Little mocha" comes from. We have shared some wonderful times together but having Kira is by far the best yet.

Do I miss being pregnant?

It's been about 3 months since I was pregnant and I find there are some rare occasions that I miss being pregnant; but then I think about the end when I was so ready to have her & that usually stops my thinking like that. I had an amazing pregnancy: I never got sick and I felt wonderful.
I truly did feel like I was glowing and I had people tell me that I did have the prego glow. I do miss being able to take her everywhere with me, how quite she was when she was in there, the kicks and punches, and many other little things. I don't miss being that big, not being able to sleep, and getting huge cankels at the end. Just in case your not familiar; that is when your legs are so big the knee and ankle fuse together without separation to form a cankle. This is a day when I went for a walk and happened across my favorite flowers, hydrangeas. Oh to be pregnant again.

Grandpa might break me

When you first bring a baby home, especially if it's your first, you are very gentle and do everything slow and steady because you don't want to do anything that could hurt her. As time goes on they get bigger and stronger and you realize that babies are more durable than you thought. Kira was born at 5 lbs. 14 oz. and was 18 and 3/4 inches long so she was pretty small. Since then she has grown a lot but her Grandpa can't seem to stop thinking that he might break her. He is so worried about it that he usually doesn't hold her or holds her for a short amount of time because he gets so anxious. He always says, "I'll just hold her when she gets older. She's so small, I don't want to accidentally do something." I think it's really cute that he rather observe her than hold her out of fear that he might break her.

Ever been so tired!

I'm sure a lot of us can relate to being this tired. I just love the way she fell asleep...it's priceless.

Baby's first Christmas

Even though baby Kira was nice this whole year Santa didn't officially bring her any gifts. I suppose she will never know. You could call her doting parents a gift although I don't know that we qualify to be more fun than a toy. Next year she will get gifts for sure.

Baby in the box...special delivery!

This has been the best Christmas of my life so far! I certainly got a special delivery this year, Santa must have gotten my letter. All my family came over to our house this year and my Dad and I tried to cook dinner for everyone. We aren't the best chefs ever but it was edible. The best part of Christmas was spending time with my new baby girl and watching the rest of the family enjoy her as well.

Off to the lactation consultant with baby at 6 days old. So, what can I say...nursing your baby is amazing and tough at the same time. For me the tough came first, and the amazing came a couple months later. I am still nursing her at 3 months but I can see how easy it is to throw in the towel. It takes a lot of dedication and patience! In the beginning I cried from lack of sleep and the pain it caused but I made it to the other side. Now nursing is a breeze and I do really enjoy it. I can't say enough about how much it helped by seeing a lactation consultant for help, it really puts your mind at ease. My hospital even offered the lactation consultation free because there was a grant for it. The consultation was truly priceless. Make sure to ask your hospital about it because it's worth it!

This is my little girl so properly crossing her legs (see 1 and 2) that she didn't want mommy and daddy to find out if she was a girl or a boy. We had been looking forward to the ultrasound day where we would be able to find out what we were going to have. A boy or a girl? 50/50 chance! Luckily we had the best ultrasound tech ever, she was so patient and did everything in her power to try and get her to uncross her legs. This included a variety of things such as jiggling, wiggling and tickling my tummy. About an hour later Kira finally decided to uncross her legs and reveal to us that she would be our little girl! Of course the tears flowed...what a joyous moment that I will never forget.

Momma's Mocha

I am starting this baby blog on Christmas as a gift to my first daughter. What a great way to share all her milestones as well as share all the great things I find in this beautiful journey called motherhood; I am now a mocha mommy. Here is a picture of my little girl, Kira, just a few days after we brought her home.
